Clothed in the Armor of God

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:11

More Than a Statue

The Armor of God holds a special place in my heart for several reasons.

My pastor, Pastor Rick, often teaches about the importance of putting on the full armor of God. His teachings have helped me understand just how important it is to be spiritually prepared for the battles we face.

I also have a statue of the Armor of God that was given to me by Pastor Letty. It once belonged to Pastor Gallindo, who was her and Martin's pastor before he passed away. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but knowing this statue once belonged to a man who devoted his life to serving God makes it especially meaningful to me. I'm grateful that something he treasured has found a place in my home.

And then there are my Step Study sisters. During our journey through Celebrate Recovery, we chose the Armor of God as our motto. We were learning to surrender our struggles to Jesus and lean on His strength instead of our own.

These three connections have made Ephesians 6 much more personal to me. The Armor of God isn't just a passage I read in my Bible. It's a reminder of the people God has placed in my life and the importance of standing firm in Him.

The Belt of Truth

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,” Ephesians 6:14 (NIV)

For a long time, I believed lies about myself that kept me tied to my past. But Jesus has taught me that my mistakes don't define who I am.

The belt of truth reminds me to stand on God's Word instead of believing every thought that enters my mind. When I know His truth, I can recognize the enemy's lies and stand firm in who God says I am.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,” Ephesians 6:14 (NIV)

I've learned that I don't have to earn God's love by being perfect. My righteousness comes through Jesus, not through anything I can accomplish on my own.

The breastplate of righteousness reminds me to guard my heart and live in a way that honors God. When I fall short, I can turn to Him, knowing His grace is greater than my mistakes.

The Shoes of Peace

“and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6:15 (NIV)

I've spent much of my life trying to find peace in things that could never give it to me. But I've learned that true peace comes from Jesus.

The shoes of peace remind me to walk in faith instead of fear. Even when life is uncertain, I can move forward knowing that God is guiding my steps.

The Shield of Faith

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Ephesians 6:16 (NIV)

I've learned that having faith doesn't mean I'll never have doubts. It means choosing to trust God even when I don't understand what's happening.

The shield of faith reminds me that when the enemy tries to discourage me, I can stand on God's promises. My circumstances may change, but His faithfulness never does.

The Helmet of Salvation

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17 (NIV)

I've learned how easily my thoughts can lead me back to guilt and shame over my past. But Jesus has forgiven me, and I don't have to live as the person I used to be.

The helmet of salvation reminds me to protect my thoughts with God's truth and remember that my identity is found in Christ, not in my mistakes.

The Sword of the Spirit

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17 (NIV)

I've learned that I can't stand against the enemy's lies if I don't know what God's Word says. The Bible gives me truth to hold on to when I'm struggling.

The sword of the Spirit reminds me that Scripture isn't just something to read. It's something I need to carry in my heart and use in my everyday life. The more time I spend in God's Word, the better prepared I am to stand firm.

Standing Firm in His Strength

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)

The more I grow in my relationship with Jesus, the more I understand that I can't face life's battles in my own strength. God has given me His truth, His Word, and the gift of prayer.

Putting on the full armor of God is a daily reminder that I belong to Him. I may not know what each day will bring, but I know I’m armed to face it.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for always being there for me. Help me remember to put on Your armor every day and not try to handle everything on my own. When I'm struggling, remind me to turn to You first. Help me stand firm in my faith and keep trusting You no matter what comes my way.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
