He Lifted Me Out

“I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place” Psalm 40:1-2 (NIV)

These verses remind me that the pit is not where our story has to end. David cried out to God, and God heard him. He lifted him out of the mud and mire, set his feet on solid ground, and gave him a new song.

There have been times in my life when I felt stuck in my own pit—surrounded by pain, addiction and shame. I couldn’t see a way out. But God could.

He didn’t just pull me out. He gave me a new place to stand and a new story to tell.

Maybe that’s what purpose looks like: allowing God to use the very places that once broke us to show others what His grace can do.

The pit wasn’t the end of my story. It was the place where God began showing me just how far His hand could reach.
