I knew about You all my life,
but I never knew Your love.
You were the God I’d heard about,
somewhere far above.
Then life grew dark, I lost my way,
and sank too deep to see.
I couldn’t find a way back out,
but You came down for me.
You heard my cry from in the pit,
and reached into the mire.
You set my feet upon the Rock
when I was weak and tired.
I came with nothing left to give,
no promises to make.
Just shattered pieces of a life
I thought was mine to waste.
But You didn’t see me as too broken
or too stained.
You met me in my darkest place
and called me by my name.
You turned my mourning into dancing,
gave beauty for my pain.
And what I thought was lost forever,
You began to build again.
I spent my whole life knowing of You,
but never knew Your heart.
Then You stepped into my darkness
and loved me from the start.
Now “God is love” is more than words,
it’s what You’ve shown me.
I used to only know about You…
now I know the One who rescued me.
